Comics for December 12, 2008 - Drag Racing
Hey there Ninjadoodles! I’m gonna be taking a couple of weeks off to fatten up a little over Christmas. I will be back to my usual Ninjadoodling on the 5th of Jan. In the meantime, have a go at my new game Hardboiled.
Have a Merry Christmas and I’ll see you guys soon!
Ninjadoodle
Hey there Ninjadoodles! I’ve been working hard on a new game for the last few weeks, so here its is!
Battle your way through 45 mini-game levels using all the skills you can muster. Find out if you have what it takes to reach the rank of Hardboiled? You will be given 5 minutes to complete the game. If you manage to do so with time left on the clock, any extra time will be converted into bonus score. If you are stuck and there is a mini-game that you just cannot do, feel free to use one of your 3 skips. If you manage to save them however, they are worth 100 points each on game completion.
Each mini-game provides brief instructions, so if you get stuck, make sure you read them. I hope you have fun!
If you have not yet played any of the mini-games of the irritating games website, then here is a cool one for you.
Everybody has played some version of Breakout. There has probably been 100’s if not 1000’s variants of the game made over the years. I’m pretty sure tho, that you guys have not played one like this. The game starts like an ordinary Breakout game with the only difference being that the paddle is mouse controlled. However, as soon as you hit a brick, the whole playing field rotates. This happens each time you hit a brick, slowly turning the game area upside down.
This game will drive you insane, so be careful not to show too much frustration if you should be working or something!
Mastermind: The Puzzle Game is a cool flash deduction puzzle based on a classic board game.
You will be asked to select some colors and place them in the right spot. After you have made your selection, you will be given some clues, for example, you have one of the right colors in the right spot and so on. It is up to you to figure out the combination in 10 turns or less.
I must say that the thing I enjoy the most about this game is the verbal abuse and emotional blackmail you will endure from the evil genius dude running the game.
Z-Rox by Evil Dog, is a very innovative puzzle game that is very hard to put into words.
The author claims that the idea was conceived when he and his friends were talking about creating a one dimensional game. The basic idea of the game is being shown a letter, symbol, shape etc. one line at a time, while your goal is to name it. The game starts pretty easy but slowly racks up the difficulty over 100 levels.
If you’re looking for something really original to drain your mental energy on, then make it Z-Rox.
Here is another instalment in the Hoshi Saga series by Nekogames.
Just like the first game, you get to pick and solve out of a bunch of small puzzles presented on a selection screen. As you solve the puzzles you will slowly unlock the 11 extra levels. Some of the puzzle here are really hard and you will have to experiment a lot in order to solve them. However, with enough tinkering around, there is always a clever solution.
If you enjoyed the first Hoshi Saga, the second part will definitely not disappoint!
Slap Me Do’s Impossible Quiz is a quiz game with a difference. The questions are pure EVIL!
At first the questions seem to make no sense whatsoever, that is until you start thinking outside the square. Be prepared to die and restart a lot, as there are a LOT of questions and only 3 lives. This however doesn’t create to much of a problem here as the levels take virtually only a second to complete, provided you already know the answer.
This game is hard, really hard and it will probably melt your brain, so I don’t recommend playing this late at night.
Feel like testing your eagle eye vision? Well, here is a cool spot the difference game with some really nice artwork.
Dreams is illustrated by Stephanie Herera and very nicely executed into a game. You will be given a number of differences in each level with a time bonus for finding them quickly. The cool thing here is that playing the game is almost like following a story. The other feature that stands out is the fact that the differences are always random, which increases the replay value immensely.
Dreams is a very nice game if you’re just looking to chill out, listening to some soothing music while playing a game with some sweet illustrations.
Castle Smasher is a very easy to pick up coffee-break type game by Donut Games.
The game-play is very simple, power up your catapult and shoot at the castle. Towers usually require a few hits to take down, whereas walls come down much faster. The bounciness of the boulders definitely helps a lot if you manage to aim them in the right place. Now and then, enemy knights will be sent out to take your catapult down, never fear tho as you can chuck boulders at them too! Remember to be wise with your ammo, as you only get a limited amount per level.
This game reminds me of playing the catapult mini-game in Defender of the Crown … ah good times!
The Visitor by Zeebarf is an excellent adventure with a transforming worm and some really sweet art.
You play as an alien parasite who crash-lands in a lake and now it’s goal is to wreak as much havoc in it’s surroundings. Since this is a horror themed game, there is quite a bit of blood and gore, which can be quite humorous I might add. You will enter several creatures, making them explode and in turn gaining some of their features/abilities. The puzzles are just the right difficulty and the game flows very nicely.
The Visitor makes me somewhat afraid of worms. I think that next time I see an earthworm, I’ll take a few steps back!
I have never played an online horror game of this calibre. Hotel 626 by Snack Strong Productions is a pure hair-raising experience!
If you’ve seen movies like Room 1408 etc. then you will have a vague idea of what this game might present. However, trying to put this game into words is useless, you have to play it for yourselves to understand how good it is. There is a registration screen right at the start, but trust me, it’s very quick and painless. If you do happen to have a webcam and live in the US then your experience will be even better!
This game will seriously make you pee your pants, so don’t play it if you’re planning on getting any sleep!
Scribble is a really sweet connect the dots game with a frantic twist.
Using the crayon, your goal is to start at number 1 and connect the numbered dots in order to move onto the next level. If you hit the wrong number at any point, the dots will reset and you’ll have to restart, which is absolutely no problem since the levels only take a few seconds to complete. Scribble your way through all 20 levels to receive a rank for your artwork.
I love how such a classic game idea translates so well into a mouse based game.
Warbears: Mission 1 by Gionatan Iasio is a sweet point and click adventure with a difference.
Instead of traveling from one scenario to the next, you are presented with a single screen of a bank robbery in progress, with your team of “Mission Impossible” like bears standing on the outside. The inside of the building is visible and it is up to you to guide your bears, each with their own special skills, in order to rescue the hostages and apprehend the crooks. The game is not too long and the puzzles are just the right difficulty without getting frustrating.
The Warbears series has a pretty spiffy website, so check out the rest of it once you’re done playing the game.
Text adventuring is not everyone’s cup of tea … I for one love it … luckily there is a constant stream of excellent text games being made to satisfy my cravings.
9:05 by Adam Cadre is one of those awesome games and thanks to the folks at Jay is Games we can now play it online as a flash game. The parser has come a long way compared to some of the adventures I used to play on the commodore 64, as you can almost use full sentences in some situations.
This game is short and sweet! Even if you’re not into IF, you should give this game a go, just for the awesome twist at the end.
This game game serves up some pure sweeeeet retro awesomeness, just the way I like it!
The black and white pixel graphics could not be simpler and neither could the game-play. Guide your little pixelated treasure hunter through a whole bunch of screens collecting treasures, avoiding traps and platforming to your hears content. This game is everything that made the 8-bit era sooo awesome!
It’s as basic as it gets, but how does such a game retain so much charm and playability!? Don’t ask me, just play it and find out!
Samorost is a beautifully designed point and click adventure game by Amanita Design.
You play a tiny pixie dude, who lives on a tree-root planet which is in danger of being destroyed by another planet heading straight for it. Throughout the game you will guide the little guy by clicking objects on the screen, solving puzzles and in turn clearing or setting up a route for the little dude to follow.
The visuals and puzzles here can be quite abstract, which in my opinion only makes the game more atmospheric and appealing.
The mayday call didn’t really help and you are now stuck on a barren planet, with alien insects coming to have you for dinner. If you can hold out long enough, maybe help will arrive … maybe.
Red Code seriously reminds me of Starship Troopers with its endless waves of alien insects just waiting to take you apart. Luckily you have plenty of weaponry including the guns on your spaceship, not to mention the energy from the dead bugs that can be used for upgrades.
You guys will have a lot of fun with this game. The sense of fighting for your own survival here is absolutely awesome!
I love this game! It has ninjas, stealth, wall running and some very cool scenarios.
The controls are simple, use the arrow keys to move your ninja around and S to attack. There are a couple of other manoeuvres you can use such as back flips, but if you get your timing right these are not necessary. In each screen, your goal is to try and take out a bunch of opponents in the most stealth full way in order to gain your ninja rank and continue onto the next scenario.
I must say that the simplicity of play and the atmospheric visuals make Ninja Rinseout one of my favourite online ninja games.
Oh man, this game will give you headaches! Doesn’t mean its not good tho, just means that I should really think of exercising my brain more often.
enDice is a dice puzzle game from Ozzie Mercado, where your goal is to move each die the number of times shown on it’s face while making it end up on a designated spot. This sound simple enough and the first few levels are, but after that you will have to use all the brainpower you muster in order to complete all 35 levels.
enDice is a game based on a really simple concept which has unlimited potential. It’s still amazing to me to see people come up with new/clever ideas like this.
Do you need a dose of frustration in your day? Well, if you do then this game will surely bring it!
Double Jeu is an extremely simple skill game entirely controlled by the mouse. Your goal is to balance a ball on a platform while juggling another with a small paddle. While this doesn’t sound too difficult in theory, in practice it’s next to impossible. My best time so far has been around 20 seconds, at which time my arms just about ended up tangled around my head.
Double Jeu also claims to use 100% of your brain. Oh, well more training for me!
Anika’s Odyssey is a beautifully crafted adventure game by the folks at Trickysheep Game Publishing.
While the game is themed around the legends of New Zealand, it retains more of an Alice in Wonderland feel. The artwork is really nicely done and the game-play is very easy to get into. The puzzles are generally quite straightforward and if you do happen to get stumped, it won’t take you too long to figure out the solution.
If you feel like taking a trip into the land of the unknown, with gnomes, giant lizards and all kinds of other crazy creatures, then this is the game for you.
Hobo Brawl by SeethingSwarm, is a funny beat em up in the style of old school classic like Final Fight and Double Dragon.
The whole game, including the combos is basically one big spoof! You’re peacefully sleeping at the local city dump when out of nowhere a policeman appears and with a little bit of force tells you to get out of there. Now you’re not gonna take any of that are you? This is where the game starts … make your way through the city streets and beat up anyone and anything you see.
I’m not gonna spoil the funny combos you get to use on your opponents, so load this game up and give it a go!
Ghostscape is a scary point n’ click adventure by Psionic3d, in which your goal is to explore a haunted house and gather evidence of paranormal activity.
The game plays like any standard 1st person adventure and is very easy to get into. You start the game armed only with a camera, a flash-light and a list of the things/activities you need to collect and take pictures of. Ghostscape can be genuinely spooky at points and I recommend playing in the dark for the best effect.
The graphics, sound effects and constant tension here, really do make for an awesome horror adventure everybody should at least try, even if you’re a scaredy-cat.
Mr Coo: El Laberinto Esférico, is a wickedly animated pick-a-path style, adventure/comic-strip game by Nacho Rodríguez.
Mr Coo is trapped in an endless dungeon and it’s up to you to decide his fate. The game is very simple to play and most of the time only requires you to make a click or two, sometimes at the right time. Depending on your choices, you will play a couple of mini-games and usually end up in the same place you’ve started. There is quite a bit of replay value here, as each play through only last a few minutes, yet there is the incentive to play again in order to explore the untravelled paths.
So, what are you waiting for, this game really rocks and you really have to play it to experience how well it flows! Don’t forget to set the language to English at the menu screen.
Here is a spooky one for you! The Cell is an awesome looking and atmospheric game, somewhat similar to the Saw series of horror films.
You get to play as an unfortunate dude who happens to wake up in an underground complex with a madman playing games with him. In order to get out of the complex you will have to complete a series of tasks given to you by the madman, who regularly calls your cell-phone with new instructions. The game requires registration, but trust me, it only takes a few seconds and it’s definitely worth it!
This is the sort of game you’ll want to play late at night with the lights off and nobody around!
Hanna in a Choppa is a very cool gravity physics game where you get to control, well Hanna in her Choppa.
The game starts pretty basic to get you used to the controls. Even tho the controls are not difficult to grasp, they can be hard to master, especially when the game starts picking up pace. You missions will range from fighting against being blown around by giant fans, to picking up weights, killing bees and so on.
This game definitely knows how to keep things interesting, as it consistently brings in new and fun things to do.
Hunted Forever is a cool futuristic game by Pixelante Game Studios that reminds me of the good old retro games like Impossible Mission.
You play a silhouette of a man with a goal of outrunning some futuristic machines out to fry you with their lasers, chop you with their blades and blow you up with their bombs! Your goal is to retrieve some machine parts which can be exchanged for upgrades at checkpoints which you will find along the way. The game has an awesome spooky and uncomfortable feel that really makes you want to get out as soon as possible.
With 4 difficulty levels, a whole bunch of sweet power-ups and the incentive to improve your ninjaness, this game definitely has lots on offer.
Retardo and the Iron Golem is a rocking point n’ click adventure game by my evil brother Robin.
Retardo is on a mission from the king, to defeat the Iron Golem. In return he will receive the hand of princess of Moronia. The problem is that Retardo isn’t exactly a clever individual and this is where you come in. Guide Retardo through a bunch of screens, trying to keep him alive while getting rid of everyone else in the most gruesome ways possible! If you like the intro, then you must complete the game for an extra little gem.
This game is completely swimming in gratuitous cartoon violence and the inappropriate!. It’s nice to see that once in a while somebody stands up to all this PC dung!
Hoshi Saga is an interesting puzzle game which is like nothing I’ve played before.
You are given 25 puzzles to solve, each one with a difficulty rating. In all of the puzzles, the aim is to find a star hidden on the screen. As no hints are given, you will have to experiment moving, dragging and clicking your mouse in ways you’ve never done before if you stand any chance of completing this game. Once you completed some of the 25 puzzles, there are 11 more that can be unlocked. The best thing here is that the puzzles can be taken at your own leisure. There is no time limit, no lives and if you’re stuck, you can simply quit out of a certain puzzle and try another.
If you’re playing this game late at night and you know you should be in bed, never fear as your browser will also store all the puzzles you have completed for next time.
Thule Trail is a sweet road-trip strategy game based on the classic Oregon Trail and just like the classic, this game is 100% 8-bit goodness!
You get to play as a group of young slackers road tripping their way to a rock concert in Santa Barbara. Your goal is to get them there on time while keeping everything running as smoothly as possible along the way. There are some really funny situations that your gang will get into, including picking up hitchhikers and entering several contests which take form as small minigames.
If you love going on road-trips even a little bit, you’re going to have a lot of fun with this game.
Untangling stuff, the most frustrating of chores! Can you remember the last time that stupid string on your board-shorts got tangled up and you stood there looking like a complete and utter dumb-ass trying to get it undone!?
Well Untangle by Chris Benjaminsen, is close but not quite as frustrating. Your are given a bunch of lines joined together by little buttons, which you can grab and pull around. The goal is to drag all the buttons in such a way that none of the lines end up crossing over each other.
A simple concept based on an age old problem, somehow manages to come out as a fun and innovative game!
Beat em’ up games are always fun for a short distraction and The Green, by The Evil Space Chicken doesn’t disappoint.
There is not much of a story here but the premise is pretty straightforward. You’re on some kind of a spaceship and your goal is to upgrade your powers and kill as many enemies as you can. There are plenty of upgrades to keep you busy and 2 game modes to choose from. The graphics and presentation here are very cool and the game is nice and easy to control.
If your itching for some intergalactic beat em’ up action, but your mum won’t let you on a spaceship to outer space, this might be one option!
I swear this must be one of the most frustrating yet painfully addictive games I have ever played!
Rigby by John Kristinsson, is a simple game where you control a cute looking ball with the goal of destroying some square blocks, because they just don’t go with the curved design of his kingdom. At first this is easy, as you start with one block on the screen. However, soon you’ll get multiple blocks and this is where the frustration comes in. You have to destroy the blocks in such a what, that you don’t touch the ground in between, otherwise they all get reset and you have to start again!
WARNING: This game causes uncontrollable swearing and pulling out of ones hair!
